Digital Transformation

Fractional CIO/CTO leadership that turns technology from a cost center into the business's growth engine, and builds a technology organization that can lead itself once I'm gone.

What This Is

This goes beyond reviewing someone else's migration plan for security gaps. I lead, or co-lead, the transformation program itself, architecture and technical debt, organizational design, data and analytics capability, and the budget that funds all of it, with security built in throughout rather than reviewed in at the end. Two things run through all of it: technology gets framed and funded as a business enabler, not managed down as a cost center, and the people running it get developed to lead it, not just staffed to execute it.

Is This the Right Fit

  • Leadership talks about IT purely as a cost to minimize, not as a lever for growth or margin
  • A major transformation is planned or underway, cloud migration, ERP replacement, data platform, without senior technology leadership guiding it end to end
  • Nobody can say with confidence what the IT budget actually funds
  • Technical debt is visibly slowing delivery but has never been quantified in terms the business will fund fixing
  • The board or CEO wants technology reported in business outcomes and dollars, not project status

What You'll Have

  • Current- and target-state architecture, with technical debt quantified in dollars and business risk
  • A target organizational design for the technology function
  • A named leadership bench, developed and coached to run it after I leave
  • A zero-based, business-outcome budget that funds the transformation, often without a new budget ask
  • IT OKRs tied to named business outcomes, tracked on a standing cadence
“Your IT budget shouldn't just tell you what you spent last year. It should tell your board what you're building this year, and why.”
